Hand Primer is a piston device fitted on the Feed Pump. At times
due to impurities in the fuel or due to unavailability of the Fuel
in the Fuel Pipes leading from the tank to the Diesel Fuel Injection
Pump, the air bubbles are formed in the fuel stream. Due to these
air bubbles the siphon of the fuel from the tank to the Feed Pump
and then to the Cylinder is broken. Thus obstructing the uniform
engine strokes. These air bubbles are removed from the fuel siphon
manually by unlocking the Hand Primer Piston and pumping the piston
of the Hand Primer. Once the Siphon of the fuel is restored the
piston of the Hand Primer is locked and the Diesel Fuel Injection
System functions normally. Various types of Hand Primers are used
for specific type of Feed Pump. Some Hand Primer are fitted with
Aluminium Hand Primers instead of the conventional steel hand primers.
When not in use the Hand Primer is fitted with a cap called as Dust
Cap which prevents dust from entering the Hand Primer piston.
